Richland County Schools Face Final Deadline to Correct State Data — What's at Stake for Local Districts

Before Ohio locks in the data behind next year's school report cards and funding calculations, school districts across Richland County face a Friday, July 24, 2026, deadline to request corrections to student and assessment data submitted to the state. The deadline is a final local test of whether the numbers used to judge schools, distribute aid, and inform families accurately reflect what happened in Richland County classrooms.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce opened the FY26 final correction window from Thursday, July 16, through Friday, July 24, 2026, allowing districts to request corrections for specified assessment and student data. Correction requests must be completed and officially submitted after superintendent approval. After the request window closes July 24, approved corrected data must be submitted in EMIS by July 31, 2026, at 5 p.m. Once that submission deadline passes, the data will be locked in and will directly determine 2026 Ohio School Report Cards and state funding calculations.

EMIS, Ohio's Education Management Information System, collects individual student records, including enrollment, attendance, assessment scores, and demographic information. The final correction opportunity covers data including Dropout Prevention & Recovery Growth, third-grade ELA and reading, end-of-course exams, and grades 3–8 state assessments.

For parents and taxpayers, the stakes extend well beyond a state database. Student data collected in EMIS is a critical component of the state foundation funding formula, meaning errors can directly alter how much money a district receives. The same data determines metrics like attendance rates, percent of time, and accountability IRN, which shape the Local and State Report Cards used to judge school performance. Since report cards feed into accountability ratings, inaccuracies can lead to incorrect classifications affecting public perception and potential sanctions.

The deadline applies to Richland County's 15 school districts, including Mansfield City School District, Madison Local School District, Ontario Local School District, Lexington Local School District, Shelby City School District, Clear Fork Valley Local School District, Crestview Local School District, and Lucas Local School District. Mansfield City School District enrolls 2,982 students for the 2025–26 school year.
