METRICH Drug Sweep Nets Guns and Narcotics Across Multiple Richland County Locations — What We Know
By Maria Delgado-Wright · July 17, 2026
The METRICH Enforcement Unit conducted a week-long drug enforcement operation in Richland County starting July 5, 2026, working with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and local law enforcement agencies to target individuals involved in narcotics distribution. Investigations leading to the operation had been ongoing for a year before the July enforcement action.
The operation resulted in 24 people being indicted on a total of 60 felony charges. Investigators executed four search warrants at separate Richland County locations and conducted a consent search, for a total of at least five locations involved in the operation.
What Was Seized at Disclosed Locations
At 244 E. Arch Street, investigators recovered one Glock 10mm handgun and filed charges including Having Weapons While Under Disability, Possessing Criminal Tools, Possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance, and Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs.
At 262 Elmwood Drive, officers executed a consent search and recovered one stolen Hi-Point firearm, filing charges of Having Weapons While Under Disability and Receiving Stolen Property.
At 439 Burns Street, investigators found evidence associated with drug trafficking and filed charges of Possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance and Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs.
At 560 Daisy Street, authorities filed charges of Tampering with Evidence and Illegal Conveyance of Drugs into a Detention Facility.
Authorities have not disclosed specific quantities or types of narcotics recovered during the searches.
Who Was Indicted and What Remains Unknown
Authorities publicly released the names of the 24 defendants. The indicted individuals face charges specifically involving the trafficking and possession of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, and general drugs. Investigations tied to the sweep remain ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
Officials have not disclosed how many people were arrested during the sweep, how the 24 indictments correspond to the multiple search locations, or whether charges resulted from evidence gathered during the July operation or from the year-long investigation that preceded it — gaps that limit residents' ability to assess whether the operation disrupted active drug distribution networks or primarily formalized existing cases.
Multi-Agency Network
METRICH is a 10-county decentralized drug task force operating in North Central Ohio that addresses multi-jurisdictional violations of drug, weapons, and organized crime statutes. It is a collaborative network of over 40 local agencies, including county sheriff's offices and municipal police departments, plus state partners including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and federal partners including the FBI, ATF, and DEA.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is composed of approximately 150 federal, state, and local agencies with over 350 task force officers, organized into multiple divisions across the Northern District of Ohio. Its Richland County Division includes the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, Mansfield Police Department, Galion Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Office, and others serving Ashland, Crawford, Huron, and Richland counties.
