Ashland County roadwork brings I-71, Route 60 and Route 511 disruptions for regional drivers

The detour around two State Route 60 closures in Ashland County sends drivers onto State Route 511 — which is itself down to one lane with flaggers for resurfacing. Add overnight single-lane closures on I-71, and Mansfield drivers heading through Ashland County this week and into the fall face a slower trip on all three routes.

Route 60 closures

As of ODOT's Sept. 14 update, two stretches of State Route 60 are closed in Ashland County for culvert replacements.

The shorter closure runs between County Road 1754 and Township Road 1806, in front of the Heartland Technical Education Center. It began Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, and is set to end Friday, Sept. 25, 2026 — a 14-day job.

The longer closure runs between County Road 1775 and County Road 1600. It began Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, and is set to end Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, subject to weather and other construction delays.

The posted detour for both closures routes traffic on State Route 60 south to State Route 511 south, U.S. Route 30 east, and back to State Route 60, with the same route in reverse for the opposite direction.

ODOT advises drivers to allow additional travel time and use caution throughout the Route 60 construction area.

Route 511 flaggers

State Route 511 is being resurfaced between Township Road 462 and the Lorain County line, reducing traffic to one lane with flagger-controlled traffic. That work is expected to run through October 2026 — and it's the same road the Route 60 detour sends drivers onto.

I-71 resurfacing

On I-71, crews are resurfacing the stretch between State Route 13 and the Ashland County line. Northbound and southbound lanes are under single-lane closures, with nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and intermittent daytime closures only as needed. ODOT estimates completion in October 2026.

The Route 60 closure near Heartland Technical Education Center clears Friday, Sept. 25. The longer one, between County Road 1775 and County Road 1600, stays through Oct. 9. The I-71 and Route 511 work runs into October.
