Richland County voters have until Oct. 5 to register or update their address for November

A move across Mansfield — or anywhere else in Richland County — can leave a voter registration tied to an old address. Residents have until Monday, Oct. 5, to register or update their address for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, general election. Applications or address changes submitted after the deadline will not take effect for that election.

Mailed applications must be postmarked by Oct. 4. Under Ohio law, an otherwise valid application received after the cutoff remains valid for subsequent elections.

Register or update

Eligible residents can register or update their information through Ohio’s official Online Voter Registration system.

First-time voters must meet state requirements, including being a U.S. citizen, turning 18 on or before the next general election and living in Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election.

Voters who have moved within Richland County or from another Ohio county can submit an address change to the county Board of Elections. The board accepts name and address changes at any time, but Ohio’s 30-day cutoff determines whether an update takes effect for the Nov. 3 election.

Anyone unsure whether a registration still carries an old address can check through the board’s online voter-lookup tool.

The candidates and ballot questions a Richland County voter sees will vary by home address and precinct. The board’s Ballot Display tool shows the contests and questions assigned to each voter.

The board’s website also provides a “2026 General Election Candidate List” and a “Questions and Issues List.”

The Richland County Board of Elections is at 1495 W. Longview Ave., Suite 101, in Mansfield. Its telephone number is 419-774-5530.

Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Oct. 5, the office will remain open until 9 p.m. for the registration deadline.

Early in-person voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 6, the day after registration closes. Before voting starts, residents can use the county tools to confirm that their name and address are current and review the candidates and questions on their specific precinct ballot.
