Mansfield YMCA fall youth sports registration closes Sept. 27 as Phase One sports complex nears completion

MANSFIELD — A parent walking into the YMCA of North Central Ohio's Mansfield branch at 750 Scholl Road this week still has time to get a child on a fall soccer field — but not much. Nonmember registration for fall youth programs runs through September 27, and the first practices and lessons begin the very next day, September 28.

Miss the cutoff and a child sits out the whole fall season, which runs September 28 through November 21. At the Mansfield branch, that season includes Soccer Stars for ages 3 through 5 and Soccer Academy for ages 6 through 12, plus group swim lessons for ages 6 months through 12 years, a dance program for ages 3 through 17, tumbling levels Pre/1/2/3 for ages 3 through 12, and karate. The same registration calendar covers the Shelby branch as well.

Two windows, one week apart

Registration is two-tiered. Members signed up September 14 through September 20; nonmembers get September 21 through September 27. A family that is not yet a Y member has a full week less to act — their window opens September 21, after members have already had seven days of sign-ups, and closes the day before sessions begin. The Y's youth-programs and youth-sports pages do not say whether nonmember spots can fill during the member week or whether a waitlist exists; they list only the two windows and the session dates.

What it costs

General youth-program pricing is $45 for members and $100 for nonmembers, though the Y notes that some sports and specialty programs, such as gymnastics and dance, are priced differently. What the Y does not post is the monthly membership rate that decides which of those two prices a family pays. The branch directs prospective members to join online, by phone at 419-522-3511, or in person, but no rate table appears on its website. The one published membership price signal is a Buy 6 Months, Get 1 Month FREE offer for new youth memberships, running August 1 through September 30; it must be paid in full and redeemed in person, and no monthly rate is posted with it.

The complex on the horizon

The planned sports complex near Mansfield lists indoor and outdoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, pickleball, outdoor soccer fields, and walking tracks. In a March 19, 2026 update, the Y said Phase One was nearing completion and the fields were targeted for a 2027 debut. For a Mansfield family deciding this week, those fields are still a season or more away. Whether a child gets on a field this fall is settled by the September 27 registration window and the two-tiered sign-up calendar, not by the complex under construction.

Youth and Family Program Director Mickey Quimby is the person to ask which program fits a child's age — Soccer Stars for 3- to 5-year-olds, Soccer Academy for 6- to 12-year-olds, or the swim, dance, tumbling, and karate options that round out the fall lineup. The clock runs out September 27; sessions begin September 28.
